Live To Create a STEAM Book You Must Fall in Love

This is a panel about art, math and yes—love. Author Amy Alznauer and illustrator Daniel Miyares (THE BOY WHO DREAMED OF INFINITY) share their backstory, their techniques in real-time (with a live-drawing demo), and finally how they continue to discover a rich world of STEAM activities through the book they create. Come dream of infinity, draw, make and explore with us!

Panelists:

Daniel Miyares is a critically acclaimed picture book author and illustrator. Some of his books include: Float, Night Out, That is My Dream, and Bring Me A Rock!. Daniel has been called “…a master of visual storytelling.”- Jody Hewston, Kinderlit, and “…enchanting, versatile” – The New York Times. He believes that our stories have the power to connect us all. Daniel’s story currently takes place in Lenexa, KS with his wife, their two wonderful children, and a dog named Violet that gives them all a run for their money.


Amy Alznauer’s writing has won the Annie Dillard Award for Creative Nonfiction, the Christopher Award, and the SCBWI-Illinois Laura Crawford Memorial Mentorship. Her books for children include The Boy Who Dreamed of Infinity: A Tale of the Genius Ramanujan (illus. Daniel Miyares, Candlewick, April 2020), Flying Paintings: The Zhou Brothers: A Story of Revolution and Art (illus. Zhou Brothers, Candlewick, September 2020), and The Strange Birds of Flannery O’Connor (illus. Ping Zhu, Enchanted Lion Books, June 2020). Amy holds an MFA in creative writing, teaches calculus and number theory classes at Northwestern University, and lives with her husband and children in Chicago.
